Police festive patrols aim to deter would be thieves in Wishaw area

Police patrols have been stepped up in North Lanarkshire.

“Festive patrols” aim to deter would-be thieves who target businesses and shops during this time.

This time of year often sees a spike in petty crime such as shoplifting as well as more serious offenses such as armed robberies.

Police Scotland believe providing an increased visible presence in Wishaw and Shotts town centres, and surrounding towns and villages, will help prevent crime.

Sergeant Ian Scott at Wishaw Police Office, said: “There will be an increased police presence within the town centres and retail areas to give shoppers some reassurance and also to provide additional support to shopkeepers.”
