Police extend patrols to beauty spots near Glasgow as heatwave hits city

Police have issued a reminder to people in Glasgow not to travel to beauty spots and rural areas near the city for exercise amid the current heatwave in the city.

Temperatures today and yesterday in Glasgow have been on a par with those in Barcelona, with the city bathed in sunshine.

And Police have announced additional patrols at beauty spots such as Mugdock Country Park, Bracklinn Falls in Callander and Finnich Glen in Stirlingshire over the weekend.

In an effort to discourage people seeking to take advantage of the good weather by visiting these locations, and instead remind folk to do exercise within their local areas.

Chief Inspector Alan Macintyre, Greater Glasgow Division, said: “We remain in a period of physical distancing in order to prevent the spread of coronavirus, protect our NHS and save lives.

“With that in mind, the public have a vital role to play by adhering to the current guidance and not visiting our many beauty spots.

"We will be patrolling across the area including Mugdock Country Park, Bracklinn Falls, Finnich Glen and the Dukes Pass and will be on hand to provide information of the current guidance.

“We understand and appreciate the sacrifices everyone is making at this time and while leaving the house for essential shopping and medicine is permitted, along with daily exercise, these activities should be done within your local area.

"Where possible, driving should be kept to a minimum."
