A missing hiker has been found after a four-day search on the New South Wales south coast.
Christopher Moore was located by police with the help of SES and the NSW Fire Service at about 11.50am in thick scrub off Twelve Mile Road and was walked out to safety.
The 38-year-old hiker, who was not injured, was assessed by NSW Ambulance paramedics and taken to Shoalhaven Base Hospital for monitoring.
Moore was located after police and emergency services expanded their search as severe weather was due to hit the region.
Before being found, Moore was last seen about 10.30am on Wednesday when he was dropped off for a solo camping trip at Twelve Mile Road in Jerrawangala, about 30km south of Nowra. He was due to be picked up at the same location on Friday.
When he did not arrive his family contacted police, who began a search for the 38-year-old.
A police spokesperson said earlier on Monday that the search effort had been ramped up before severe weather was due to hit.
“We have additional resources today because the weather is supposed to turn a little bit for the next couple of days, so we have additional crews working to try and locate him.”
The Bureau of Meteorology has issued a severe weather warning for the east coast with heavy rainfall of 50mm to 120mm expected from the Hunter to the Illawarra region on Tuesday and Wednesday.
“We have a flood watch current and it’s for the southern parts of the mid-north coast, for the Hunter, the Hawkesbury Nepean, the Sydney, the Illawarra coast and also the Snowy River catchment,” Bureau of Meteorology hazard preparedness manager, Steve Bernacodi, said.
“The forecast for wind during this event is for damaging gusts, damaging being greater than 90 kilometres an hour are likely along the coastal fringe and exposed ranges.”
