Police escort family off flight at Manchester Airport after holidaymakers complain of child abuse

A family were escorted off a flight at Manchester Airport after holidaymakers raised concerns of child abuse.

The mum, dad and young children were taken off the Thomas Cook plane by police when their flight landed in the UK.

They had been on holiday in Turkey on a two-week package deal - but their trip was cut short because of concerns for their children's welfare.

Fellow guests at the Atlantique Holiday Club Resort and hotel staff raised the concerns, the Liverpool ECHO reports .

One claim relates to a child being struck around the back of the head, with another allegation that a different child was dunked in the holiday pool by their feet.

The ECHO reports that the family deny any allegations of child abuse or neglect.

Staff from the agency stayed on the same floor as the hotel as a safeguarding measure.

The flight left Western Turkey and landed in Manchester Airport.

Merseyside Police confirmed that officers in Manchester were involved escorting a family off a Thomas Cook flight.

They said that no criminal proceedings are active at this time due to the allegations being made abroad.

It's believed that social services were also there to meet the children and safeguarding measures are in place.

A Thomas Cook spokesperson said: “We have a duty of care to all of our customers, and have clear policies in place, including a child protection policy, which we will not hesitate to act upon to ensure the wellbeing of our customers and colleagues.”
