Police are seeking witnesses to a high-speed car chase through southern Canberra last night.
They said a black BMW with stolen plates was spotted in Richardson, so officers gave chase. The car was only stopped after a tire puncturing device was used, but the driver fled, leaving the car abandoned.
ACT Policing appealed for anyone who knows more, including with dashcam footage, to come forward.
The drama started at Clift Crescent when the police spotted the stolen NSW plates (CTN85T) and directed the driver to pull over.
Police said they couldn't identify whether the driver was male or female. Either way, the car sped off "driving dangerously near other vehicles through Richardson, Isabella Plains and Calwell," ACT Policing said.
"Officers deployed tyre deflation devices and the vehicle was later located abandoned in Chisholm."
"Police are asking anyone who witnessed or who may have dash-cam footage of the black BMW sedan being driven in the Tuggeranong area between 9:20pm and 10pm last night to come forward. Anyone who can assist police should provide their contact details to Crime Stoppers via the Crime Stoppers ACT website, quoting 8468083".
The latest police chase in Canberra follows another on Saturday afternoon when a 15-year-old boy allegedly narrowly missed a pram as he revved up the Mazda he was driving to try to evade police. Patrol cars with sirens then chased the driver until he came to a stop in a no-through-road.
He was due to face court.
The case is not known to be connected with the latest chase. Police made a similar plea for anyone with information to get in touch, citing 8466144 as the relevant number for the case.
