Police dogs helped save life of high risk woman reported missing in East Linton

Police dogs helped save the live of a high risk missing woman during a dramatic search in East Linton at the weekend.

The search and rescue helicopter was also involved in the operation to locate Katharine Spooner (48) on Sunday evening.

East Lothian Police said that they were desperate to trace the woman, who had serious health and mobility issues, and was declared "high risk" as a result.

A social media appeal was issued by officers and during last night's major search a helicopter crew located a heat source in a remote field.

The dog handler then tracked to the location and found the lady, although she was in a "bad way and unable to move".

She was rushed to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary and is currently in a stable condition.

Chief Inspector Neil Mitchell, local area commander, said: "I would like to thank the residents of East Lothian who shared our appeal and provided information to allow us to focus our search. It was a bitterly cold night and the actions of the officers with this information undoubtedly saved her life. Thank you to all and well done."
