Police dogs find suspected car thief hiding in Cardiff garden

A car theft suspect has been detained in Cardiff following a coordinated police response.

The stolen vehicle was sighted on Newport Road in Cardiff by CCTV operators, who then led officers to the suspects.

A foot chase then ensued, with a helicopter from the National Police Air Service called in to assist.

In addition, dogs from South Wales Police were deployed, leading to a suspect being discovered hiding in a nearby garden.

In a tweet on the incident sent at 1:45am on Sunday (January 9), South Wales Police Cardiff wrote: "Stolen vehicle sighted on Newport Road in Cardiff, located by CCTV Operator & @SWP_Roads directed to the suspects.

"One foot chase, @NPASSouthWest & @SWPDogsHorses assist later - a suspect was arrested hiding in a garden a short distance away. #KeepingCardiffSafe ^4667."
