Police Dog Zak sniffs out two suspects in Sefton after car stolen in Manchester

Merseyside Police Dogs are rarely out of the spotlight and it was PD Zak's turn to rise to the occasion during an overnight patrol in the early hours.

The four-legged friend of the Merseyside force picked up the scent of hiding males and managed to track them to their hiding place from an abandoned vehicle in the Sefton area, which had earlier been stolen.

Police officers tweeted: "Overnight, PD Zak assisted to track from an abandoned vehicle in the Sefton area, straight to two males hiding.

"The vehicle was recently stolen from Manchester in a burglary. Both males arrested."

Police dogs are trained with positive reinforcement, which is needed to produce a happy, well-adjusted dog.

Police dogs are loyal to their handlers and do what they tell them because they enjoy it, which is why a strong bond is always an advantage.
