Police dog 'sniffs out' burglary suspect hiding in garden after Mini stolen while heavily pregnant woman slept

A police dog reportedly sniffed out a suspect hiding in a garden after a Mini was stolen while the heavily pregnant owner slept.

One man has been arrested on suspicion of burglary and remains in police custody for questioning, the GMP post said.

Officers were first called to an address in Timperley after reports two 'suspicious males' in balaclavas and gloves were parked outside in a Mini.

They were called to the scene in the early hours of this morning (Monday), according to a post on the GMP Trafford South Facebook page.

When police arrived, the masked men tried to drive away, but couldn't start the car.

They then got out and ran away, the post, signed off by PC B, said.

A police helicopter was deployed in the hunt to find them.

"With the males wanting to play hide and seek, now you may call this cheating or you might call it playing savvy, but can I introduce Police Dog Mel weighing in at around 50 pounds, her sense of smell is like no other", the status said.

"In fact she can sniff out criminals with her eyes closed.

"PD Mel got onto the scent and tracked to a garden where she found the loser of the game trying his best to hide, unlucky pal."

Enquiries revealed that the car had been stolen from an address in Sale.

Police were sent to the address, and informed the heavily pregnant homeowner that she had been the victim of a break-in.

The car has been sent off to be forensically examined.

Officers are now searching for a second vehicle that was taken in the burglary.

They are also on the hunt for the second suspect.

The post continued: "To the male who managed to slip the net, footage showing you getting out of the car and removing rubber gloves and throwing them on the floor has been seized, you should of(sic) just left us your name and address as when your DNA comes back you will be getting a visit which won’t be Santa."
