Police dog's 'loud vocal encouragement' helps collar suspect

Mersey Police Dogs section of Merseyside Police today paid tribute to one of their four-legged friends for helping them at an incident last night (Saturday, October 3).

After a male fled from a stolen vehicle and disappeared, Police Dog Quga seized the initiative and was on hand as she picked up the offender's track and directed officers to a street which led to an address being identified.

Officers tweeted that some loud vocal "encouragement by Quga then helped to locate the male suspect inside", and the police were able to put an end to the incident.

Quga's importance to the force has been recognised but it takes months for a dog to become proficient in their work.

Most police dogs will take on average four to six months to complete their basic training before entering active service with their police handler.
