Police dog nabs suspected car thieves after five mile chase ends with stinger stop

Two yobs in a stolen car were chased for five miles by police and caught after being halted by a stinger device.

Officers pursued the suspects as they drove without stopping through the streets of Huyton, Gateacre and Halewood at around 10pm on Saturday night.

The stolen silver Ford Focus came to the end of its journey on Church Road, Halewood, where its tyres were deliberately burst by police.

A police dog, called Kane, the helped to catch the suspects, aged 22 and 28, who will be quizzed about the incident.

They were arrested on suspicion of burglary, dangerous driving and driving a motor vehicle while disqualified from driving.

The Focus had been stolen in a burglary two weeks earlier from Cherrydale Road in Allerton.

On Facebook, people in Knowsley were quick to praise the police and Kane.

Sarah Rialcnis wrote: "Great work!!!

"I’ll forgive the helicopter for waking up my child!

"Some small justice for the victims and future victims."

Vicky Berry said: "Well done.

"Seen the police flying past me as I went to pick my daughter up front the station last night then heard the helicopter five minutes later.

"Well done police dog Kane and your human colleagues."

Merseyside Police said they were investigating the incident.
