Police dog handler and 'much-loved colleague' dies suddenly

Tributes have been paid to a Welsh police constable who has died suddenly.

Police Constable Jeremy Veck, who was a dog handler with South Wales Police, died on Monday, May 11, South Wales Police confirmed.

PC Veck - known affectionately as ‘Vecky’ - was based at Lakeside Police Station in Swansea and was with the force for more than 20 years.

He spent his career working in both the Swansea and Neath Port Talbot areas.

His death has come as a shock to all at South Wales Police, with Chief Constable Matt Jukes leading the tributes.

PC Veck was an "Integral part" of South Wales Police (South Wales Police)

“The awful news of Jeremy’s death is a shock to us all, he was an integral part of our police family and gave 23 years’ service to the communities of south Wales," he said.

“My thoughts are with all those affected by Jeremy’s death, including his many friends and colleagues, and most of all, with his family at this very sad time.”

Tributes have also been paid on social media to Mr Veck.

The South Wales Police Roads Policing Unit tweeted: “Horrendously sad news to hear of the passing of a much loved colleague.”

South Wales Police added that Mr Vecky’s death is not believed to be linked to coronavirus.
