Police dog goes missing after chasing pheasant while out on job

Residents in Bulwell reported seeing a number of police cars in their area on Wednesday (May 6) and the force says this was because one of their dogs decided to go AWOL during a job.

Officers attended Old Pit Tip in Bulwell after specialist search dog, PD Baxter, saw a pheasant and decided to chase the terrified bird into an open area.

Nottinghamshire Police said the handler had become concerned because of a nearby main road and officers were sent in to help find PD Baxter.

The search took place in and around Park Chase in Bulwell throughout the morning and PD Baxter was located.

Police Sergeant Gav Berry from the dog section said: “Officers attended the old pit tip in Bulwell at around 10.45am today (Wednesday 6 May) after one of the force’s specialist search dogs went missing.

"PD Baxter was out with its handler when it flushed out a pheasant and ran off in to a wide open space and there was concern about the main road nearby.

"He has since been located safe and well and has returned back to force HQ."
