An urgent police operation to find a woman was successful last night after the woman was tracked down in woodland by a police dog.
Merseyside Police said they were called regarding concerns for a “suicidal” woman who had disappeared into a wooded area in New Ferry, Wirral shortly after 7pm.
A police search unit including dogs were sent out to look for the vulnerable woman.

PD Venus, a Belgian Shepherd, picked up a scent and was able to locate the woman who was found safe and well within the woods.
Police said she was taken to hospital for assessment.
Praising PD Venus for her good work, Merseyside Police dog unit posted on Twitter last night: “Earlier tonight officers were called regarding concerns for a suicidal female.
“PD Venus arrived and commenced searching a large wooded area.
“PD Venus picked up a track and located the female safe and well within the woods.

“The female is now being supported by the right services”.
A spokesperson from Merseyside Police said: “Officers were called to a location in New Ferry to concerns for the safety of a woman shortly after 7pm last night (Wednesday 2 December), she was found safe and well at around 7.40pm and taken to hospital for assessment.”
It’s not the first time that PD Venus’ keen senses have been required as part of police operations recently.
In November, she successfully tracked down stolen property after a burglary in the early hours.

Merseyside Police dog unit tweeted on November 24: “In the early hours of this morning officers were called to a residential burglary in the Halewood area.
“PD Venus arrived and began tracking the offenders through all types of terrain during which she located property stolen from the address.”
