Police Dog Falco earned all the plaudits from Mersey Police Dogs unit last night after tracking and catching a suspect following a chase in fields in St Helens. The dog was quick on the scene after a suspected stolen car crashed into numerous vehicles.
Both of the vehicle's occupants decided to make a run for it and although colleagues detained one male close by, the second was tracked by Falco who caught up with the suspect nearby. Officers later tweeted: "Great job Falco."
All police dogs must first become experts at basic obedience training - obeying the commands of their handler without hesitation. This is what keeps the inherent aggression of the dog in check, and allows the officer to control how much force the dog is using against a suspect. This obedience was much in evidence during the police operation last night.
