Police divers searching river in Alnwick after stabbing which left man seriously injured in hospital

A team of police divers are carrying out searches the day after a man was stabbed in Alnwick.

Emergency services were called to the Pastures area just before 7pm on Tuesday to reports that a man had been stabbed.

Police cordoned off the Lion Bridge on the on the B6341 and the Great North Air Ambulance arrived at the scene.

A man was found suffering with heavy blood loss and was treated at the scene by paramedics and a doctor.

He was taken to the Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle by road ambulance with injuries described as "serious but non life threatening".

Police arrested a 41-year-old man in connection with the assault and he remains in custody.

On Wednesday, the police's marine unit could be seen carrying out searches in the River Aln close to the Pastures.

Northumbria Police said there was no further update on the investigation.

A spokesperson said on Tuesday evening: "Anyone with any information is asked to call police on 101 quoting reference number 914 16/06/20.”
