Detectives investigating the disappearance of a missing Scots nurse say specialist divers are now assisting with their search.

Gillian Ballantyne vanished from her home in Coneypark Place, Banknock, at around 10am on Tuesday July, 6.

The 50-year-old nurse anaesthetist, at Forth Valley Royal Hospital, was later spotted around 12.45pm on Napier Road, Wardpark Industrial Estate in Cumbernauld that same day.

Yesterday we told you how firefighters were seen searching the Forth and Clyde Canal in Allandale, as part of the missing person investigation.

Gillian is described as 5ft 2ins in height, bald, with a slim build and blue eyes.

She was wearing jeans, a white jacket & blue head covering and is also known to wear hats and scarves routinely and has been seen wearing a blue beanie hat.

Officers say she is believed to be in possession of a pink fleece and a brown scarf.

Chief Inspector Gill Marshall, Stirling Area Commander, said: "Officers and Gillian’s family are becoming increasingly concern for her welfare.

"We know she enjoys walking and often walks considerable distances.

"I am appealing to anyone who may have seen Gillian to get in touch with us. In particular, if anyone has any dashcam footage and you were in and around the areas Gillian was seen, please can you check your device, as you may have captured an image of her which could assist our investigation."
