Police dive team called to sunken boat on River Trent

Officers "prepared themselves" for what they might find after they were called to a sunken boat in the River Trent.

The Nottinghamshire Police force's dive team were called on Sunday, June 23 after a member of the public reported a boat had sunk next to Meadow Lane Lock in Nottingham.

Officers were concerned that someone could still be on board, as the incident happened overnight.

A spokesman for Nottinghamshire Police said: "Officers prepared themselves for what they could potentially find.

"Thankfully no-one was onboard and following investigations it proved that the boat was taking water in, so the owner moored it opposite Nottingham Forest's City Ground."

The boat sank at around midnight and it was confirmed no-one was present on the boat.

PC Stephen Craner said: "A full search of the boat and river bed round the boat was conducted as a precaution.

"No-one was believed to be within the boat but we still have to check to be on the safe side."
