Police discover three guns wrapped in black bin bags buried next to tree

Police have recovered three guns stashed in black bin bags and hidden next to a tree. Officers discovered the firearms after intelligence led them to a footpath in a residential area.

On Tuesday, specialist and Tactical Aid Unit from Rochdale's Challenger Organised Crime Unit cordoned off an area between Stott Lane and Hopwood Road in Middleton and found the trio of weapons buried next to a tree, reports the Manchester Evening News.

Police claim the firearms, found wrapped in bin bags, included two pistols and a Glock 19, with the guns now subject to forensic examination. Officers believe they belong to criminal networks that engage in organised crime.

One of the firearms was a Glock 19 (@Greater Manchester Police)

Detective Inspector Stuart Round said: “This was an intelligence led recovery of three firearms suspected of belonging to criminal networks who are associated with serious and organised crime.

“These are dangerous weapons, often used to threaten and cause serious risk and harm to people living within our community and their recovery is a great example of how we are acting on information that is provided to us and further protecting the public that we serve.”

If you have information, call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 or contact GMP via 101. Always dial 999 in an emergency.
