Police discover body in search for missing East Lothian woman

A body has been found in the search for a woman who vanished from her East Lothian home over the weekend.

Cops searching for Maureen Steele, 46, made the grim discovery in Longniddry around 8pm on Monday August 3 after she was reported missing from Tranent on Saturday.

Her family after been told of the discovery and are being kept informed by officers.

A Police Scotland spokeswoman said: "Police Scotland can confirm around 8pm today the body of a woman was found in Longniddry in East Lothian.

"Formal identification has yet to take place, however the family of 46-year-old Maureen Steele, reported missing from Tranent on Saturday, have been informed.

"Officers wish to thank the public for their assistance."
