A body recovered in the search for a missing schoolgirl has been formally identified as Sophie Clark.
The 13-year-old was last seen leaving her home in Sherborne, Dorset, on Tuesday at 6pm.
Police officers searching for the teenager, who vanished after telling her parents she was going for a stroll, found her body in woods at Dancing Hill in Sherborne on Wednesday.
Officers used dogs and a police helicopter to search for the teenager when she failed to return home. Dorset police said she may have been upset or worried and that her disappearance was out of character.
A Dorset police spokeswoman said earlier on Wednesday, before formal identification had taken place, that Sophie’s family had been informed and were being supported by officers.
“The death is not being treated as suspicious and the coroner has been informed,” the spokesperson added. “Inquiries are under way to establish the circumstances leading to her death on behalf of the coroner.”
