Police discover a body in Edinburgh after racing to report of a 'motorbike on fire'

Police raced to the report of a motorbike on fire this morning before they found a body nearby in Edinburgh.

Officers made the unexpected discovery while attending the report of a blaze near the city bypass.

Cops were called shortly after 9am this morning near Midlothian's Hadfast Road, in the village of Cousland.

The scene was taped off earlier today (Edinburgh Live)

Police say they discovered a body on arrival and the person is yet to be publicly identified.

Photos obtained by Edinburgh Live show forensics combing the scene for evidence on a walkway that runs under the A68 Dalkeith Northern Bypass.

An investigation has been launched, with police currently describing the death as "unexplained".

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “We received a report of a motorbike on fire near Hadfast Road, Cousland, around 9.20am on Sunday, 17 January, 2021. On arrival, officers discovered the body of a person nearby.

"The death is being treated as unexplained and enquiries into the circumstances are ongoing.”
