Police detain likely mastermind in Nakamura slaying

TEHRAN -- Local police have newly detained one Afghan man in connection with the killing of six persons including Japanese doctor Tetsu Nakamura, senior police officers told The Yomiuri Shimbun on Thursday.

The detained man seems highly likely to be the mastermind of the attack.

Nakamura, 73, was the local representative of the nongovernmental organization Peshawar-kai.

The police, who were investigating based on information received from Afghan intelligence, reportedly detained the man in Jalalabad on Wednesday night. The officials have not disclosed the man's whereabouts at the time of the attack or on what suspicions led to them detaining him.
