Police descend on Leith as cordon set up with forensic officers combing area

Police have descended on Leith this evening as part of the area has been cordoned off.

Around ten officers were at the scene on the foot of Leith Walk at the entrance to the Newkirkgate Shopping Centre this evening.

There was also at least one ambulance, a police car and a police van in attendance at around 8pm.

Photos from the scene show a cordon has been set up, blocking off part of the pavement, and a police tent has also been erected.

It is understood forensics are combing the area, while an eyewitness told Edinburgh Live that the police tent has been set around "a bench".
