Police descend on Kelvingrove Park after 'large disturbance' breaks out

Dozens of police have descended on Kelvingrove Park after a 'large-scale disturbance' broke out.

Officers were patrolling the park in Glasgow's west end when the incident unfolded around 7 pm on Friday.

Police confirmed that they are dealing with a 'disturbance' and that officers remain on the scene.

Further details on the incident are yet to released and it's not known if anyone was injured as a result of the incident.

The incident comes after nine of the sixteen gates to the park were locked in a bid to allow officers to ensure no alcohol was taken in.

Glasgow City Council announced that their officers would be stationed at the gates today and tomorrow as large crowds were expected due to the warm weather.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Police in Glasgow were conducting a routine patrol in Kelvingrove Park on Friday, April 23, when they became aware of a large disturbance at around 7pm.

"Officers remain at the scene and enquiries are ongoing."

We reported how hundreds of people were denied entry to the park last weekend amid a crackdown on public drinking.

Over four hundred groups and individuals were reportedly refused access to the west end park by council staff and police officers.

The council say Glaswegians were knocked back for trying to get into the park with alcohol, while many were also removed from the park after being seen drinking alcohol on the park grounds.

Police also had to take teenagers aged between 14 and 17 home because they 'were so intoxicated'.
