Police cordoned off an area around a north Manchester pub on Sunday night after a man was shot.
The victim, a man in his 30s, has been taken to hospital where he remains in a stable condition following the shooting in Monsall.
A hunt has been launched for the gunman - as yet no suspects have been arrested.
A long stretch of Pinehurst Road and St Augustine Street has been cordoned off in Monsall around The Clarendon pub.
One resident on the estate told the M.E.N: "The victim walked to the ambulance. He seemed to be OK. There were a lot of people stood outside the pub. There's always people outside. Everybody's saying it's a drive-by shooting.
"There were armed police all over the place. It's obviously serious."
Forensics experts were seen to be examining the window of the pub.
Pictures from the scene showed the pub window had been damaged.
Last week shots were fired at four houses in Burnage, Fallowfield and Chorlton in targeted attacks being linked by police. Property was damaged but no-one was hurt.
It is not yet known if the latest incident is also being linked.
A spokeswoman for Greater Manchester Police said: "Shortly after 6pm on Sunday 4 October 2020, police were called to Pinehurst Road to reports that a man had been shot.
"The victim - a man in his 30s - was taken to hospital where he remains in a stable condition.
"No arrests have been made and enquiries are ongoing."
