Police deploy stinger device to stop car in pursuit near Bristol

Police used a stinger device to stop a car in a pursuit near Bristol.

Officers deployed the device while following a vehicle on the A37 at Pensford in the early hours of today.

Both occupants of the vehicle were arrested and the car was seized.

Catalytic converters and other items were also seized from the vehicle.

Avon and Somerset Police roads policing unit said in a tweet: “Skilful, safe pursuit by @ASPSouthSom officers towards Bristol early AM.

"Stopped in its tracks by outstanding, four tyre #Sting by @ASPRoadSafety (^MS) on A37 Pensford.

“Both occupants arrested and catalytic converter/other items recovered. Vehicle seized. #TPAC #Roadcrime.”

Stinger devices are used by police to bring vehicles they are pursuing to a halt.

They work by puncturing one or more tyres of an oncoming vehicle when they are thrown into its path by an officer from the side of the road.
