Game of Thrones final season: Police deny 'gatecrashing' filming in Northern Ireland

Police in Northern Ireland have denied that they “ruined” an epic Game of Thrones scene by flying a helicopter over filming.

The PSNI was accused of flying an aircraft over a “ridiculously sensitive scene” in Magheramorne Quarry, County Antrim.

Entertainment Weekly’s James Hibberd claimed that filming had fallen silent in April 2018 – only to be hit by the sudden roar of a helicopter over the “government-protected airspace”.

“The great battle is over, the snowy ground is streaked with blood, beloved heroes lay dead outside the castle gates,” he wrote.

Game of Thrones: Trailer for final series released

“Winterfell is quiet. And then… a sudden roar from above. A gust of wind. A blur of low-flying movement. A dragon? No. An ice dragon? Worse.

“F****** spoiler helicopter just flew right over the set! says an alarmed crew member. The helicopter seemingly came out of nowhere and flew directly over a ridiculously sensitive scene from the show's final season.”

He claimed that production then called the Civil Aviation Authority while the showrunners were told of the “potential breach”. An hour later, they were “told it was a police helicopter”.

On Tuesday, fans finally got the promised season eight trailer they had all been waiting for.

The two-minute trailer follows the biggest names in Westeros with Kit Harington’s Jon Snow talking about the “enemy not tiring”.

The footage also shows Sansa Stark, played by Sophie Turner, preparing herself for battle while her sister Arya, played by Maisie Williams, gazes in awe as she finally sees Drogon.

Game Of Thrones will return for a final series on April 15, simulcasting with the US at 2am. Episodes will be repeated at 9pm on Sky Atlantic.
