A man waving a knife and acting in a disorderly manner in Westfield Shopping Centre, Woden on Sunday morning was crash-tackled and taken into custody by police.

Police were called to the shopping mall around 9.10am where they found a 39-year-old man shouting and threatening people.

Police officers tackled the man to the ground and disarmed him of a large knife.

The man was believed to be intoxicated.

The offender was later granted police watch house bail to appear in the ACT Magistrates Court on October 1 on two counts of possessing a knife without a reasonable excuse and one count of threatening to cause harm to a Commonwealth public official.
