Police crackdown on Edinburgh drivers as 87 different offences reported in one day

Police in Edinburgh have cracked down on irresponsible drivers this week after a huge number of speeding offences were reported in just one day.

On Tuesday, the road police and the national motorcycle unit teamed up to allow officers to patrol the roads all across the city.

Within just a few hours, officers had flagged a number of drivers, with 48 speeding offences reported.

Despite 48 being reported, a further 35 speeding warnings were also given to a series of dangerous drivers.

One driver has also been reported after they were pulled over by police, only to be discovered as not having a license.

A further two cars were also seized after they were found to not be insured, with another driver charged with a solid white line offence.

Today (September 8), officers took to Twitter to deem the day a 'speed enforcement day of action'.

Last week, the road police were also out in force after they caught a 22 year old driver speeding at over 100mph whilst travelling on the A1.

A woman was stopped after officers clocked her at 101mph while another man was caught doing 94mph on the dual carriageway near Gladsmuir in East Lothian.
