Police crack down on drink and drug E-scooter riders

Merseyside Road Police have adopted a zero-tolerance approach to E-scooter drink and drug misuse and have been out and about tonight intercepting a number of offenders.

A number of E-scooter riders have been given roadside drink and drug tests in a crackdown on illegal use around Liverpool.

Officers intercepted a suspect drug driver on an E-scooter on Jubilee Drive, Kensington, on Friday night (October 15). The rider was arrested for possession of a Class B drug and for failing a drug wipe.

Police said on Twitter: "Illegal e scooter stopped on Jubilee Drive, Kensington, and rider found to be in possession of cannabis and also failed a drug wipe. Arrested and scooter seized."

In a separate incident a rider who had too much to drink was also stopped, breathalysed and arrested for being over the limit.

MerseysidePolice Traffic tweeted at 3.06am: "Another illegal e scooter. This time the rider wasn’t under the influence of drugs. He was however under the influence of alcohol and blew 75 (legal limit 35).

"Rider arrested and scooter seized."
