Police cordon off streets after 'sudden death' in village

A large police presence was reported in a village near Southport after a sudden death.

Officers were called to Banks at around 4pm yesterday (Wednesday, January 27).

When they attended the scene, close to Guinea Hall Lane, a man in his 40s was found unresponsive.

He was pronounced dead at the scene. The death is not being treated as suspicious.

Cordons were set up on Greaves Hall Avenue and Sanderling Drive in the Banks area while enquiries were carried out last night.

Witnesses reported seeing Crime Scene Investigators and a forensic tent at the scene.

A spokesperson for Lancashire Police said: "We were called around 4pm yesterday (Wednesday, January 27) to a report of a sudden death in Banks.

"Officers attended the scene close to Guinea Hall Lane with a man, aged in his 40s, found unresponsive. Sadly he was pronounced dead at the scene.

"The death is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be passed to the coroner in due course.

"Our thoughts are with the man’s family at this sad time."
