Police cordon off street in Harpurhey after woman suffers serious medical episode

Police cordoned off a street in Harpurhey after a woman suffered a serious medical episode.

Rochdale Road was taped off this morning (Friday) near the junction with Ash Street.

Police said they were called at around 7am to a report of concern for the welfare of a woman.

Officers found a 44-year-old woman at the scene suffering a medical episode.

She has since been taken to hospital in a serious condition.

An eyewitness told the M.E.N they saw a woman lying on the ground near a bus stop on Rochdale Road at around 6.45am.

They said two ambulances arrived at the scene first, then police arrived.

The road was blocked off between Ash Street and Prescott Road until around 9am.

Pictures taken at the scene show a cordon near a row of shops and a bus stop.

A number of police vehicles were stationed on the road.

Cars and some bus services were being diverted away from the area, but the road is now open as normal.

In a statement, a GMP spokesperson said: "Officers were called around 7am this morning (Friday 12 February 2021) to a report of concern for the welfare of a woman on Rochdale Road, Manchester.

"Emergency services attended and enquiries established a 44-year-old woman was suffering a medical episode.

"She has been taken to hospital in a serious condition."
