Woman's body found near Glenrothes footpath in search for missing Kathleen Ritchie

A body has been found in the search for missing Kathleen Ritchie.

The 35-year-old had been missing since Friday.

She was last seen at a Tesco store at the Glenwood Centre in Glenrothes.

Kathleen had left the shop and crossed the road at South Parks Road and was not seen or heard from, from that moment.

Overnight Fife Police Division released a statement revealing that the body of a woman had been found near a footpath in the town's Ivanhoe Drive just after 8pm on Sunday.

It came as an imagine emerged of a police vehicle and cordon being spotted in the area.

A photo of the one cop motor was shared online at around 1am, sparking concern among locals.

Officers said that while formal identification is yet to take place Kathleen's family had been informed.

A post-mortem will be carried out 'in due course'.

Cops are currently treating the death as unexplained.

At this stage they do not think there are any suspicious circumstances surrounding her tragic passing.

A spokesperson from Fife Police Division said: "We can confirm that the body of a woman was found near a footpath on Ivanhoe Drive around 8.05pm on Sunday, May 23.

"The family of missing woman Kathleen Ritchie, who had been missing since Friday, May 21, have been made aware of the discovery.

"Formal identification is yet to take place and a post mortem will be carried out in due course.

"The death is currently being treated as unexplained, but there are not thought to be any suspicious circumstances."
