Police cordon off East Kilbride street in late night assault probe

A police cordon at an East Kilbride street remains in place this morning following a late night assault.

Emergency services rushed to Greenhills Road around 9.45pm on Wednesday (September 22) after receiving a report of an assault in the area.

A police cordon was put in place while officers investigated the incident. A police presence remains in place today.

Eye witnesses told Lanarkshire Live that a police van was used as a road block, with one local telling us: “Police cordoned off a street in Whitehills last night.

“It was still there at 7am this morning and officers were still on the scene.

“There was a police van blocking the road and officers were stopping people making their way on to Drumloch Gardens.

“By 8.15am the van had gone but the tape cordon was still there.”

Another resident fears that the incident may be serious, they said: "This place just gets worse and worse.

"Police cordons and large police presences are becoming the norm.

"If the police had closed the street off for almost 12 hours, then it's got to be something serious.

"It's awful, I hope everyone is alright.

"You just don't know what's going to happen next up here."

Police confirmed as assault in the area saying that investigations are ongoing.

A police spokesperson said: “Police were called around 9.45pm on Wednesday, September 22, following the report of an assault near Greenhills Road, East Kilbride.

“Officers attended and enquiries are currently ongoing to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident."

Anyone with information is asked to contact police on 101.
