Police cordon off cycle trail near Ilkeston after incident

Police have cordoned off a cycle trail after reports of an incident in the early hours of the morning.

Investigating officers have taped off part of the Nutbrook Trail near Ilkeston.

It's believed the force have sealed off the area since 6am on Sunday morning (May 9), Derbyshire Live reports.

Pictures show an officer on guard at the site, underneath a bridge which takes the A6096 over the cycle trail.

A witness at the scene said: "There's a police cordon underneath the bridge underneath Ladywood Road on the Nutbrook Trail between Kirk Hallam and Ilkeston. Police say they've been here since 6am and I've overheard a police officer say it's 'quite a serious incident'."

Police have not issued a statement about the incident and Derbyshire Live is attempting to contact the force to try to find out more information.

The trail is a 10-mile route between Long Eaton to Heanor which takes riders and walkers through the 700-acre Shipley Country Park.

It is described by Sustrans as "a flat route with plenty to see and do along the way, perfect for families".
