Police cordon off crashed cars after 'men with baseball bats' spotted on street

Police cordoned off two crashed cars after 'men with baseball bats' were spotted on a Stockport street.

Officers were called to the scene on Hallam Street at around 6.30pm today (Monday).

They were called to reports of a crash and 'males with baseball bats' spotted near to the Premier Inn on nearby Buxton Road, a spokesperson for GMP said.

The males had fled the scene by the time police had arrived.

An investigation is now ongoing.

It is not clear at this stage whether anyone suffered any injuries.

Pictures taken at the scene on Hallam Street earlier showed a police cordon in place around two cars.

Both cars appeared badly damaged and smashed.

One of the vehicles' tyres had fallen off the car.

A number of police officers were stationed at the scene.

In a statement, a GMP spokesperson said: "At around 6pm on Monday, September 6, police were called to a report of a RTC and males with baseball bats near to the Premier Inn in Stockport.

"However, the offenders had made off from the scene prior to police attendance.

"There is currently investigation ongoing into this report, with three vehicles being seized.

"At this moment in time it is unknown if anyone has suffered any injuries."
