'Police cordon, CSI and a BMW covered in blood'... investigation launched after man attacked in Northern Quarter

A man is in hospital after being attacked in Manchester city centre.

The victim, believed to be in his 30s, suffered serious injuries during the assault in the early hours of Sunday (August 25).

Emergency services were initially called to Butler Street, in Ancoats, just before 3am.

The attack is understood to have taken place near a car park on Brewer Street, which is just off Port Street in the Northern Quarter.

A cordon was put in place, with witnesses reporting seeing forensics officers at the scene.

A spokesman for GMP said the victim was taken to hospital.

The extent of his injuries are not yet known.

One person posted on Facebook: "Police cordon, CSI and a BMW covered in blood."

They said: "We were called at 2.55am to Butler Street to reports that a man had been assaulted.

"The victim, who is approximately 30-years-old, was taken to hospital.

"Officers have since established the incident occurred on Brewer Street.

"A scene was put in place while investigations were carried out.

"Enquiries are ongoing."
