Police continue to search for 'masked men' who smashed the window of County Durham restaurant

Police are continuing to search for two "masked men" who smashed the front window of a County Durham restaurant.

Families were forced to hide in the toilets of the Santinni bar and restaurant in Shildon on Wednesday evening while two "masked men" smashed the window with weapons.

A group of children attending an 11th birthday party were sat on a table nearby while the two men smashed the window covering it in shattered pieces of glass.

The restaurant reopened on Thursday morning, stating online that they were open for business as usual.

In a post on Facebook, the owners thanked local support and said their main priority is the wellbeing of their staff and customers.

Durham Constabulary has now confirmed that an investigation remains ongoing.

A spokesperson for the force said: "Police were called at 5.45pm last night (November 17) to reports of criminal damage at a premises on Main Street, Shildon.

"It is believed the suspects smashed the window, causing it to shatter and break before making off in a vehicle.
