Police continue to hunt for yobs who firebombed ex-Celtic chief's Lanarkshire home

Yobs who torched the Lanarkshire home of Celtic chief executive Peter Lawwell remain at large.

Police are still hunting the perpetrators who set three cars alight in the driveway of the plush property in Thorntonhall, forcing Lawwell and his family to flee the inferno.

The fire last May sparked a huge response from the emergency services and at one point eight fire engines were present.

But no arrests have been made despite an intensive investigation and an offer of a £20,000 reward for information from charity Crimestoppers.

There were no injuries but the vehicles and garage were destroyed in an attack which was treated as wilful fire-raising.

It is believed his daughter and her four-month old baby girl were sleeping above the garage area.

Police later revealed a masked man had been spotted on CCTV outside the property pouring accelerant on vehicles shortly before flames broke out.

A Police Scotland spokeswoman confirmed no arrests had been made and enquiries were still ongoing.

Speaking after the incident Lawwell, 62, who left Celtic in June last year after 17 year with the club, said: "This has been a devastating attack on myself and my family, the effects of which will stay with us all for a long time.

"I am, of course, extremely relieved that everyone is safe. I would like to thank my wife and my family for their support and for the strength and courage they have shown during such a difficult time."

A reward of up to £20,000 has been offered by Crimestoppers (Daily Record)

The attack Lawwell's home came days before businessman James Mortimer, 76, had cars torched outside his home in nearby Bothwell.

A 22-year-old man was arrested but released pending further investigation.

It happened after his neighbour had his £260,000 Rolls-Royce Cullinan destroyed in a fire.

Officers are also still hunting for yobs who firebombed a Range Rover parked in a driveway, also in Bothwell, in November.

It belonged to Jennifer McLeish, whose dad Alan is the founder of maintenance firm QTS.

A Police Scotland spokeswoman said: "No arrests have been made and officers are still appealing for anyone with information to come forward."
