Police continue search for culprit who set car on fire - saying it was lucky nobody was hurt

Police officers investigating a deliberate car fire say it was only luck that nobody was hurt.

Officers in West Lothian are appealing for information after a car was deliberately set on fire in Mains Place, Whitburn.

The incident happened around 2.30am on Sunday, May 28, when a silver Land Rover Discovery was found on fire. The fire also spread to a nearby detached garage.

The fire was put out by the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service and no one was injured.

Detective Constable Jennifer Rogers said: “It is fortunate that no one was hurt. The fire spread to a nearby building which was also damaged.

“We are appealing for anyone with dash-cam or private CCTV footage that could assist us with our investigation to contact us.”

If you can assist officers please contact Police Scotland on 101, quoting incident number 0673 of Sunday, 28 May, 2023, or make a call anonymously to the charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
