Police confiscate large machete after finding man 'hiding in the bushes' near cycle path

A man has been arrested after police found him 'hiding in the bushes' with a large machete.

Officers were called to search an area of the Little Hulton loopline at around 8.15 am this morning after a member of the public spotted 'someone carrying a large knife'.

Police searched an area of the path just off Mount Skip Lane before finding a man who appeared to be hiding.

Inspector Kate Allen, from GMP's Swinton and Little Hulton team, praised officers for their work in a post on Facebook.

She wrote: "Fantastic response from the Salford North West Neighbourhood Team this morning. At 8.13am, a call was received to say there was a male seen on the loopline carrying a machete.

"PC Brindley noticed the job straight away, and by 8:16am was on the loop line looking for the offender with her colleagues PC Upton and Sgt Shaw.

"PC Brindley found the male hiding in bushes and her colleagues were quick to get to her to assist. A 53-year-old male has now been arrested and a large machete recovered.

"This male is currently in custody for questioning and I will update with the progress made later this afternoon. Very good response from a fantastic team, I'm a very proud inspector this morning ."
