Police confiscate knife from pupil after threat to youngsters

Police officers recovered a blade from a young boy, believed to be 13, after he made a chilling knife threat.

According to reports, youngsters were pursued into a shop in Auchterarder by a gang of older children as they walked home from school.

It is then alleged that one member of the gang made a threat towards the children with a small blade.

However, police on patrol nearby were called to the scene where they confiscated what turned out to be a penknife.

Police have said they will carry out a further investigation into the incident.

Chief inspector Ian Scott said: "Officers on patrol in Auchterarder on the evening of March 27 were flagged down and made aware of an incident involving a group of local children.

"Acting on information provided, officers searched one young person and a penknife was recovered.

"At the time, the officers concerned took initial action which was considered to be appropriate given the circumstances and the age of the children involved.

"This was of course on the understanding that further enquiry would follow in due course.

"We have continued those enquiries today and have made sure that the school are fully aware although the incident did not take place on school grounds or within school hours.

"Incidents involving young people and knives are a big concern for all of us and I would seek to reassure local parents that our response to this incident will get the level of priority it rightly deserves."

A Perth and Kinross Council spokesperson said: "The Community School of Auchterarder is aware of an incident in the community that occurred outside school hours this week, which Police Scotland responded to.

"Following this isolated incident appropriate action is being taken to support children and young people.

"School staff and local Police officers will work to provide advice and reassurance to pupils."
