Police confirm woman gave birth before she died as inquiries continue

Police investigating the unexplained death of a woman in Bristol have said she died after giving birth.

Bristol Live understands the baby survived and is being cared for.

The young woman, who has not been named by the authorities, was pronounced dead at hospital after she was taken there from a house in Knowle West yesterday (January 17).

Local residents reported a large ambulance and police presence at a house in Bratton Road, just off Wallingford Road in Knowle West just before noon.

Avon and Somerset police confirmed a woman was treated at the scene. "She was taken to hospital, but sadly she has died," a spokesperson said.

Yesterday, police said: "We were called by the ambulance service to attend a property in Bratton Road, Bristol, at just before midday today.

"A woman who was at the property was treated at the scene and taken to hospital, but sadly she has died. Her death is currently being treated as unexplained and we’re carrying out further enquiries," he added.

Today, police confirmed the death is still being treated as unexplained and a post-mortem examination will take place as further inquiries are made.

They also confirmed the woman gave birth at the address in Knowle West and the baby survived and is being cared for.
