Police confirm teen girl's report of serious sex assault in Leith church grounds was 'false'

Police have confirmed that a teen girl's report of a serious sexual assault in the grounds of an Edinburgh church were false.

Police revealed that a probe was underway into the alleged attack on a 17-year-old girl.

It was reported that the teen was subjected to a serious sexual assault in the early hours of Thursday morning.

We told how the alleged incident took place in the grounds of South Leith Parish Church in Constitution Street.

On Monday officers confirmed that the report was false and that 'no criminality has been established'.

A spokesperson from Police Scotland told the Record: "Advice following a report last week of a serious sexual assault involving a 17-year-old girl around 1am on Thursday, October 22, in the grounds of a church in the Leith area of Edinburgh.

"Following an extensive investigation by police, no criminality has been established."
