Bristolians were awoken by two "massive" bangs last night.
A plethora of people reported hearing the booms in the still of night around 12.40am and the noise was enough to scare a flock of seagulls sent reeling skyward.
The bumps in the night attracted a number of posts from people on social media.
One said: "The weirdest s**t just happened?? I live in Bristol city centre and there was this massive noise that sounded like maybe an engine exploding idk??? Didn’t think much of it and then a minute later the same noise?? And then all the birds started going CRAZY for like 5 mins???"

A baffled poster added: "I live down harbourside by Spike Island and I heard both followed by the birds, jolted me awake!"
Avon Fire and Rescue Service were not troubled.
But Avon and Somerset Constabulary did receive a call - and it appears they discovered the culprit.
A spokesman said: "Police were called at about 12.40am on Saturday May 23 by a resident of Southville reporting hearing two loud bangs.
"Officers who were patrolling on Coronation Road had seen fireworks going off in the Whapping Wharf area at that time."
