Police confirm rise in Edinburgh coronavirus lockdown breaches to over 3500

Cops in Edinburgh have recorded over 3500 breaches of the coronavirus lockdown, up 50 in the last week according to Police Scotland data.

The force have recorded 3670 breaches of the lockdown restrictions designed to contain the spread of coronavirus, an increase of 50 from 2983 on the previous week.

3030 of the breaches have been resolved after those involved moved on when informed of the rules by officers. 415 were resolved after police instructed them to move on.

The data release says "reasonable force" was used to resolve the incident in 44 cases, the same as the previous week.

A Fixed Penalty Notice was issued to 167 people breaching lockdown , an increase of two since the week ending 3 June.

14 arrests were made by police officer across Edinburgh, an increased of one from the previous week.

The highest number of breaches were recorded in the North West of the city, where 24 people were moved on after being informed about the rules.

One arrest was made in the South West of the city.
