Police confirm one victim in 'father and son' double death in Paisley was murder

Police have confirmed one victim in what is thought to be a father and son double death at a house in Paisley was murdered.

Officers rushed to Lanfine Road in the town's Ralston area at around 7pm on Thursday April 16 and discovered the body of James Mooney.

Cops confirmed today the 60-year-old was murdered, but are treating the death of a 23-year-old, named locally as his son Nicolas, as non-suspicious.

A major probe has been launched, however police are not looking for anyone else in connection with the incident.

Police sealed off a section of the street, with officers carrying out their investigation in one the properties in the quiet residential area.

Specialist forensic officers were later seen removing items from the house.

A full report will be sent to the Procurator Fiscal.

Detective Inspector Erin Renwick of the Major Investigation Team said: “Following post mortem examinations the death of the 60 year-old man is being treated as murder.  He can now be named as James Mooney and his family has been informed.

“The death of the 23 year-old man is not being treated as suspicious.

“Although our detailed investigation is continuing to establish the exact circumstances, we do believe that it was contained within this house and we are not looking for anyone else in connection with this incident.”
