Police confirm man has died in the River Clyde after extensive search

Police have confirmed that the man they were searching for in a huge operation by the Clyde this morning has been found dead.

As reported by Glasgow Live , dozens of emergency service vehicles raced to the city centre this morning amid reports of a rescue mission in the water.

A spokesperson for Scottish Fire and Rescue Service confirmed at the time that a search had been launched.

However, Police Scotland have now told Glasgow Live that a man has died after jumping into the water in the early hours of this morning.

A spokesperson said:  "At 4.15am this morning, police were called to reports of a disturbance on Clyde Street.

"On arrival, they saw a man running away and jumping into the water along the suspension bridge.

"With assistance from the marine force, coastguard, fire service and ambulance crews, police tried to rescue him.

"The body has since been recovered and enquires are continuing."
