Police confirm identity of man who died in Perth retail park fire

Police officers have confirmed the person who died in the fire at St Catherine’s Retail Park is Perth man Jamie East.

Officers investigating the fire confirmed today (Monday, September 2) the 33-year-old died in the fire.

The fire took hold of B&M, Pets at Home and an empty unit at the retail park in the early hours of Saturday, August 24.

Those investigating the incident then said on Friday they were looking into the possibility of a body being inside the premises.

The body was found yesterday (Sunday, September 1).

A spokesperson for Police Scotland’s Tayside division said: “Police Scotland can confirm the identity of the man who died in a fire at St Catherine’s Retail Park, Perth on Saturday, August 24 as Jamie East (33) from Perth.

“Our thoughts are with his family and friends.

“Mr East’s family are being provided with appropriate support, and have asked that their privacy be respected at this difficult time.”

Police officers say they are not looking to trace anybody else in connection with the fire.
